Downloading

Create a new folder on the “C” drive, named “My Downloads” if the folder does not currently exist.  Put all downloaded files into this folder. Often these files can be deleted after installing downloaded applications. Of course you will want to retain mp3 files and graphics files.

Downloading Adobe Acrobat pdf files:

Some people report problems with reading pdf files. This web page, from Adobe, has information concerning Acrobat Reader and older versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

http://www.adobe.com/support/techguides/acrobat/rdrwinbrwsr/main.html

"In its release of Netscape Navigator version 6, Netscape has altered the way the browser handles plug-ins. As a result of these changes, Navigator version 6 users should be aware that some of the Acrobat functionality is no longer available. (Note: this does not affect version 4.x of Navigator/Communicator.)

If you have problems while using Netscape Navigator, please try MS Internet Explorer. If you have problems while using MS Internet Explorer, please try Netscape Navigator. The idea is to try something different.

Personalizing the Links bar, from the Internet Explorer help menu.

To add a web page to the Links bar: The Links bar is located below the Address bar in Internet Explorer, and is a convenient place to add links to a few web pages that you use frequently. Just click the link to display the page.

You can add a web page to the Links bar in a variety of ways:

  1. Drag the icon for the page from your Address bar to your Links bar.
  2. Drag a link from a Web page to your Links bar.
  3. Drag a link to the Links folder in your Favorites list.

Notes

1.    If the Links bar does not appear on the toolbar, on the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Links.

2.    You also can organize your links by dragging them to a different location on the Links bar.

Adding a folder to the Links bar

To organize your favorite pages into folders, from the Internet Explorer help menu.

As your list of favorite pages grows, you can keep it organized by creating folders. You might want to organize your pages by topic. For example, you could create a folder named Art for storing information about art exhibits and reviews.

  1. On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.
  2. Click Create Folder, type a name for the folder, and then press ENTER.
  3. Drag the shortcuts (or folders) in the list to the appropriate folders.

If the number of shortcuts or folders makes dragging impractical, you can use the Move to Folder button instead.

See the next page for a second way to add a folder to the Link bar.

A second way to add a folder to the Link bar

  1. On the Favorites menu, click Add to Favorites.
  2. Click the “+” in front of the Links folder.
  3. Click on the Links folder, so “Links” is highlighted.
  4. Click on “New Folder” and type a name for the folder.
