A computer’s operating system can become unstable or unbootable.
When this occurs depends upon numerous factors including
1. Changing hardware
2. Adding and removing software
3. Turning off the computer
incorrectly
4. Exceeding the computer’s RAM
and hard drive memory
5. Internet sites that are visited
6. Files that are downloaded from
the internet
Maintaining a computer’s operating system is difficult. There’s
no free ride. You either need to read computer books and magazines, take
classes, and talk with other people (such as at the FHF computer club),
or pay someone else to do that for you. Contact Bob Kuhn (610-361-0999
or kuhnrl@yahoo.com) for obtaining information on a resource, for a fee,
that will help you with computer problems and information. The FHF
computer club website (http://www.foxhillfarm.org/General/links_education.htm)
has information on schools where computer classes are available.
Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Systemworks Pro. Norton AntiVirus
offers virus protection with easy updating of virus definitions from the
Symantec web site.
GoBack is part of Norton Systemworks Pro. If you are having problems
with the operating system crashing or not booting, GoBack enables the
computer operating system to go back to a previous date when the
operating system was stable.
Ghost is part of Norton Systemworks Pro. Ghost enables the hard drive
to be copied when the computer is running fine. Later, you may have
problems with the operating system crashing or not booting, or the hard
drive may fail. You may need to format the hard drive or buy a new drive
and reload the operating system and all applications and data. With
Ghost, you can restore the hard drive to the previously saved condition.
