Alaska Cruise |
|
6/26/02 PM Vancouver Sadly, this is our last day in the beautiful city of Vancouver. After a nice continental breakfast at our hotel, we walked two blocks to Granville Street and caught a (electric powered) bus to the UBC (University of British Columbia) campus. It is a large campus at the end of a peninsula. The buses stop at a five-lane bus area in the center of the campus. We walked to the UBC Anthropology Museum at the western edge of the campus. It is an EXCELLENT museum with a better display of totem poles (inside and outside) than we saw in Alaska. There was an interesting display on how scientists use infra-red light to see what old weather-beaten boards originally looked like when they were part of a large painted "mural" on the front of native Indian buildings. There were thousands of research items on display on shelves and in cabinet drawers. They ranged from arrow heads and fishing hooks to canes, crutches, spears, masks, and ceramics from around the world. After leaving the Anthropology Museum, we walked to the UBC Botanical Gardens on the opposite side of the campus. We walked through 70 acres of pretty woods and gardens. We then walked back to the bus area in the center of the campus and took a bus to the downtown area of our hotel. After resting our legs and drinking lots of water, we walked to the Gastown district and ate at The Brothers. Nice meal. Tomorrow we take a taxi to the airport and fly home. A great ending to a great trip and cruise. A total of 1162 pictures were taken; 530 appear on this web site, and 220 are in the photo album.
