Fantasy Clouds
When I was ten years old, I visited during the month of July with
my grandparents on their farm. On a particular sunny day, I laid
out on the grassy lawn watching beautiful, fluffy clouds pass
overhead. I began to fantasize and found myself drifting along on
one of the clouds. I wondered where it would take me. Might I see
the Mississippi River and the City of Red Wing where I lived with my
parents. From the ground again, I saw on the edge of another cloud,
the head and long neck of an animal that might be a giraffe. My
thought turned to a circus that I had attended with my
grandparents. As two other clouds slowly merged, I imagined the
formation of a huge circus tent.
Years
later, on a hot humid day, dark clouds shielded the sun one late
afternoon causing a weird darkness. Going outdoors, I observed
threatening clouds intermingling, sometimes in a swirling motion. Minutes after passing overhead, a dark cloud descended forming a
funnel that destroyed property in its path. I wondered what my
fantasy would have been at ten years of age watching those clouds. |
