Aunt Francis
Frances Kuhn was born on October 1, 1891
in Red Wing, Minnesota. Her parents were Ferdinand Kuhn and Victoria
Tolve Kuhn. She was married to William Anderson on May
1915 in Red Wing. The wedding ceremony was held at the
bride’s home. They were blessed with two sons, Norman, born on
February 26, 1916 and Leland, born on November 2, 1922.
William Anderson was born in Red Wing,
Minnesota on September 28, 1887. His parents were John Anderson and
Eva Christine Jackson. William worked as a carpenter, plus all
around handyman. He was employed by the Green Construction Company.
Bill was slim and close to six feet tall. He owned a pickup truck
for work. They never owned a car. During the depression years in the
thirties, there were times he was out of work He did not dare pick
up other work for fear Green then would terminate his employment. He
had some problems with asthma.
Frances was about five foot five in
height, medium build and always wore glasses. She was Arthur Kuhn’s
only sister. Uncle Will and Aunt Frances lived a frugal life and
never had much money. Their small two bedroom home was situated on a
back street in West Red Wing. Their home was not modern,
no power or running water. The water was obtained from a pump
just outside of the house. An outhouse was located a short distance
from the house. Whenever Aunt Frances went out, her clothes were
always clean and nice looking. If she wore white shoes, she had them
shined so they would look like new. When my parents and family
visited them during the holiday season, we were especially
interested in seeing their Christmas tree because it had candles on
the tree. Aunt Frances would light the candles so we could see how
the light of the candles reflected off the ornaments. In a very
short time, she would then extinguish the candles to prevent a fire.
Our family would look forward to her
special white fudge candy which everyone enjoyed. Aunt Frances was a
very good cook so we always looked forward to any meal she prepared.
Their son, Norman, loved the outdoors. He was a good hunter and
fisherman. Norman enjoyed his work as a Minnesota Game Warden and
completed his career in the Red Wing area. Leland was an electrician
in Red Wing. |
